Environmental and Health Radiochemistry Unit

The Environmental and Health Radiochemistry Unit is part of the Chromatography and Environmental Applications Group of the Rovira i Virgili University. Since 2001, it has been carrying out activities in the field of environmental radioactivity measurement.

In 2006, it obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Body (ENAC), with accreditation No. 518/LE970, for the performance of certain tests in relation to the determination of radioactivity in the environment, in accordance with the criteria set out in the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard. Its activity focuses mainly on the radiological analysis of drinking water and other environmental matrices, such as biota, soils and food, in accordance with current regulations.

The unit combines the activity of accredited analytical service with the development of applied research in the field of environmental radiochemistry, including the implementation and validation of analytical methods for the determination of radionuclides at trace levels. It also offers research studies, technical consultancy and training activities, aimed at public administrations, companies and research institutions.
